NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is reminding drivers to plan ahead as State Highway 2 (SH2) through the Waioweka Gorge will be closed between 10am and 6pm daily on Monday 24 February, Tuesday 25 February and Wednesday 26 February to complete essential maintenance work.
The State Highway 2 (SH2) Waioweka Gorge is a vital road running through the rugged landscapes of the Eastern Bay of Plenty, it stands as an important link between the East Coast and the rest of New Zealand, not only for the public but also for freight.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advises of the following closures for motorway improvements. Work delayed by bad weather will be completed at the next available date, prior to Friday, 28 February 2025.
UPDATE: Due to asphalt supply issues, this work will now take place over seven nights, from Sunday 23 February to Monday 3 March (inclusive), with no work overnight on Friday 28 February and Saturday 1 March.
