The NZ Transport Agency is advising drivers crossing the South Island’s alpine passes, especially SH73 and travelling on the West Coast from tomorrow (Wednesday) through to Friday to check the weather forecast before they travel; and plan ahead to avoid delays by checking the NZ Transport Agency Journey website for 24/7 road condition information on closures or delays.
The NZ Transport Agency is starting two significant improvement projects along State Highway 6 in Nelson from Thursday 8 February: a road resurfacing project along Rocks Road as well as a shared pathway project closer to Nelson CBD, from the Maitai River to Rocks Road.

Queenstown drivers may experience some queuing at the new Kawarau Falls bridge from this week as the heritage bridge, which has taken northbound traffic over the busy holiday period, closes permanently to motorised traffic. From this week, all road users will travel on the new Kawarau Falls bridge, part of State Highway 6, through Frankton.

The NZ Transport Agency kept State Highway 1 on either side of Kaikōura closed this morning after minor rockfalls and surface flooding in several places. The highway to the south between Peketa and Goose Bay and the northern link between Clarence and Mangamaunu remains closed.
