Final surfacing and line marking of the new section of State Highway 59 and Whareroa Road begins tomorrow.
Work is scheduled to start at 9pm tomorrow night (Friday, 17 November) and continue until 8am Saturday (18 November). It will resume at the end of next week from 9pm Friday, 24 November, through to 8am Saturday, 25 November.
This is part of the stage two completion works for the Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata – Transmission Gully motorway project. It forms a key connection for the Paekākāriki community.
Once complete, all post-construction inspections and safety reviews will need to be completed before the road opens in mid-December.
The works require a temporary overnight closure of Whareroa Road (between the Emerald Glen Road roundabout and Queen Elizabeth Park), and the northbound State Highway 1/Mackays Crossing off-ramp.
Closing the road allows road crews to complete more work in less time. It is also much safer for those working on-site.
The same detour that's been in place over the last few weeks will be used:
Additional work will be happening throughout the day on Friday, 17 November.
Please expect traffic management, directional travel restrictions and associated detours when travelling through this area.
This work may cause some disruption and delays. We want thank drivers for their patience and cooperation as this work is completed.
