The NZ Transport Agency is advising that work to repair a slip on State Highway 43 Hospital Hill will begin next week.
Initial work to prepare for the repairs will involve minor widening of State Highway 43 Hospital Hill and the formation of an access track to the base of the under slip.
The Transport Agency’s Regional Transport Systems Manager Ross I’Anson says State Highway 43 Hospital Hill has experienced a number of slips over the past few months.
“To repair the slip, we will construct a mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) wall which will also help to prevent further slips.
“The road leading down Hospital Hill is showing signs that it will also slip eventually, so the MSE wall will continue down the hill to prevent this from happening.
“We expect that the MSE wall will be complete by early 2019.”
State Highway 43 Hospital Hill will remain under traffic light and stop/go management while this work is underway.
