The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to avoid or delay travel on State Highway 2 between Opotiki and Gisborne, following a truck crash near Matawai this morning.
Regional Transport Systems Manager Wayne Oldfield says a crane, coming from Tauranga, is needed to remove the truck and the aim is to have the road between Matawai and Rakauroa reopened around 2pm today.
“A detour is in place via State Highway 35, but be advised this route takes around four and a half hours. An update will be posted on our website and social media pages as soon as the work on State Highway 2 is completed.”
The NZ Transport Agency wants to thank road users for their understanding and patience.
