Metservice has forecast wind gusts which will affect Thursday afternoon northbound peak traffic on the Auckland Harbour Bridge and may result in lane closures.
A temporary closure of all lanes is possible on Sunday and Monday.
Our usual afternoon Moveable Lane Barrier move will be delayed today, which will impact peak hour travel from the CBD.
Lane closures are likely this afternoon and there will be speed restrictions in place on the bridge.
On Friday strong wind gusts are forecast from 9am-8pm. Lane closures are likely and a temporary full closure of the bridge is possible if winds gust over 90km/h.
On Saturday lane closures are likely and speed restrictions will be in place.
On Sunday and Monday northwest winds will increase, and a severe weather watch is likely with a potential closure of all lanes.
Waka Kotahi is working closely with Metservice to monitor wind speeds with maintenance crews out on the network ready to react and close lanes on the bridge if wind gusts exceed threshold levels. The safety of road users is our top priority and we won’t hesitate to reduce speeds, close lanes or close the bridge if necessary.
The Moveable Lane Barrier will be in PM peak overnight for maintenance works but will be shifted back to 4:4 position and will not be moved to the AM peak due to the risk period of 8am-11am.
Drivers of high sided vehicles and motorcyclists are encouraged to avoid the Auckland Harbour Bridge and use the Western Ring on State Highways 16 and 18.
