The NZ Transport Agency advises drivers that Whangarei's Kamo by-pass on State Highway 1 (SH1) will be closed this weekend for maintenance work at the level crossing on the by-pass.
The closure will start at 7pm on Friday (12 July) and will continue until 5am the following Monday (15 July). State highway traffic will be diverted on to Kamo Road and the detour will be well signposted to assist drivers.
The closure will allow contractors to repair the drainage system around the highway and the railway line.
The Transport Agency's Senior Delivery Manager for Northland, Jacqui Hori- Hoult, thanks drivers for their support while the by-pass is closed.
"We will be do everything we can to minimise any disruption to drivers, but we do ask people to take care around this part of the city while we complete our work as quickly as possible," says Ms Hori-Hoult. "The diversion could affect travel and people should add a little more time to their journeys.
"If our work finishes ahead of schedule, we will be re-opening the by-pass early," Ms Hori-Hoult says.
The closure of the by-pass is weather dependent. People can ring 0800 111 655 for more information.
