Wet weather continues to impact the roading network throughout the Bay of Plenty, with slips, downed trees and flooding causing challenging driving conditions.
Road users are advised to drive to the conditions, watch their following distances and expect the unexpected. With this level of rain, potholes will be prevalent. Drivers are encouraged to call 0800 HIGHWAYS to report issues.
Impacted highways are currently as follows:
BOP West
- SH2 Ōmokoroa/Youngson Road - NORTHBOUND LANE CLOSED. Contractors are clearing fallen tree debris and clear slip material. Southbound traffic open. Northbound traffic take the detour via Barret Road, old Highway, Youngson Road.
- SH2 Pongakawa – CLOSED between Wilson Road and Maniatutu Road due to flooding at the Kaikokopu Stream Bridge. Detour in place. Westbound traffic: Right onto Wilson Rd Sth, Left onto Old Coach Rd, left onto Maniatutu Rd before re-joining SH2. Eastbound traffic in reverse.
BOP East
- SH2 Waioeka Gorge – CAUTION ADVISED. There are multiple rockfall and slip sites. 30 km/h temporary speed limit and Stop/Go traffic management in place through the Gorge as clearing continues.
- SH2 Waimana Gorge – ONE LANE CLOSED due to a slip. Stop Go traffic signals in place with a 30km/h temporary speed limit. Contractors are clearing.
- SH36 - Hamurana CLOSED between Jackson Road and Central Road due to scour and rockfall. An assessment is underway this morning.
- SH30 East – ONE LANE CLOSED IN PLACES due to multiple slips from Tikitere to Rotoma. Contractors on site commencing clearing. Stop/Go and 30km/h temporary speed limit in place.
