The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to plan ahead for closures to the Western Springs off-ramp on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) this weekend.
The citybound off-ramp will be closed from 8pm Friday 25 September until 5am Monday 28 September so work can be done to rebuild and widen the existing off-ramp.
To minimise disruption the closure has been timed for the first weekend of the school holiday period when traffic volumes are lighter.
Auckland Zoo and MOTAT as well as the Northwestern Cycleway will remain open as usual.
Citybound traffic will need to exit the motorway at either the Waterview/Great North Rd off-ramp or the Newton Road off-ramp.

Meanwhile construction of the second phase of the new St Lukes Road overbridge, spanning the motorway is progressing well. Traffic was switched to a new bridge in April and the construction teams are now well under way with work on the second bridge. The two bridges are expected to be ‘stitched’ together to form one bridge, by the end of the year, providing a total of eight traffic lanes, four in each direction.
The $70 million St Lukes Road upgrade project is jointly funded by the NZ Transport Agency and Auckland Transport and is being delivered by Leighton Contractors.
A two kilometre-long section of the Northwestern Motorway is being widened from three to four lanes in each direction. There will also be improvements to the motorway ramps and the St Lukes Road – Great North Road intersection, while the St Lukes Road overbridge spanning the motorway is being widened to benefit drivers, walkers and cyclists.
Work began in June and is due to be completed by late 2016.
