The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that following the heavy rain, there are still some parts of the Wellington region network that require repairs, and motorists may notice different road layouts and routes.
Due to a forecast of more rain, there may be more slips, leading to further disruption on the state highway network. Crews are working hard to restore the network, but motorists should plan ahead, and in some cases, expect delays. We appreciate people’s on-going patience.
State Highway 1 Pukerua Bay to Plimmerton.
State Highway 1 Pukerua Bay to Plimmerton is currently operating at two lanes northbound and one lane southbound. Contractors will be on site over the next few days stabilising the slip and constructing a retaining wall. Weather permitting, we are aiming to have all four lanes operating for Monday morning. Motorists are advised works will be undertaken over the next few nights, and this will result in some intermittent closures.
State Highway 2 Hutt on-ramp
State Highway 2 Hutt on-ramp at the bottom of the Ngauranga Gorge has returned to its normal layout. Shipping containers have been secured in place to provide protection from the slip.
State Highway 58, Judgeford Bridge
The bridge near the Judgeford golf course on State Highway 58 is now open to one lane in each direction, under a 30 km speed limit. We remind drivers to keep to this temporary speed limit. A further stop/go closure will be installed from 7pm tonight to enable contractors to complete works in this area.
State Highway 58 Postgate Roundabout to Paremata
The westbound closure of the section of State Highway 58 between Postgate Roundabout to Paremata will remain in place until we can complete the remedial work required.
During this time, motorists in light vehicles travelling westbound from the Hutt Valley on State Highway 58 will be advised to use Grays Road to access State Highway 1. All other westbound motorists on State Highway 58 will be diverted at Postgate Roundabout over Warspite Avenue to Whitford Brown intersection.
To help us reduce traffic volumes and prevent congestion on State Highway 58, we are advising motorists to use State Highway 1 and State Highway 2 instead of travelling on State Highway 58, if at all possible.
All trucks should use State Highway 1 and State Highway 2, as State Highway 58 will not be suitable for heavy vehicles during this period.
People can call 0800 44 44 49 for updates and the Transport Agency’s website and social media accounts will be also updated as more information is available.
