With more wet weather forecast for the Wellington region, drivers are being urged to be prepared for hazardous conditions on the region’s roads.
The Metservice has issued a heavy rain watch for Wellington and Horowhenua today, and more wet weather is forecast for the weekend.
Recent rain has left the ground saturated. Further bad weather means the risk of slips and flooding on the region’s State High Network remains.
Contractors are working hard to keep the network operational. This means there can be road works and traffic control measures in place at short notice as work is done to undertake repairs, clear slips, and address localised flooding.
Road users must be aware of the potential weather-related hazards and ongoing roadworks and to drive to the conditions.
Waka Kotahi also asks drivers to respect temporary speed limits where road works are being carried out. This is for their safety and that of road maintenance crews.
