Washout Thames Coast Road - allow for minor delays

|

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is advising motorists using SH25 just north of Waiomu to plan their journey and expect delays due to a washout.

Waikato Network Operations Manager Karen Boyt says a short section of the road is reduced to one lane due to a washout caused by recent high tides. The contractor is currently on site carrying out engineering investigations and 24 hour Stop/Go traffic management is in place.

“Repairs will get underway as soon as possible. At this stage we don’t know exactly how long it will take to carry out the repairs, but we estimate that it will take until next week to get two lanes open again. As always, we will do our best to keep delays to a minimum and get the road open as quickly as possible,” Ms Boyt said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and we’d like to thank motorists for their patience,” she said.

The NZTA’s website is regularly updated with information on significant road works locations; and also information on other road closures and detours as they come to hand - go to www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic(external link).

This information is also available by phoning the NZTA’s freephone on 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), which can also be used to report any significant road issues or hazards which people may come across during their travels.
