The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has awarded the contract for the Washdyke Intersection Improvement project to Fulton Hogan Ltd.
The project which is expected to take about six months to complete is scheduled to start in early October.
Project Manager Chris Collins says the work includes the realignment of State Highway 1 (Hilton Highway) and State Highway 8 (Racecourse Road) intersection. It also involves the installation of traffic signals at the new intersection of SH1 and SH8, and at the intersection of SH1 and Seadown Road.
Chris Collins says a war memorial in the construction area will be temporarily relocated into a park north of its current site and then moved to its new location in time for next year's Anzac Day services.
