As part of ongoing construction of the Rangiriri Section of the Waikato Expressway, work to shift SH 1 traffic onto a new temporary road alignment between Te Wheoro Road to the north and Rangiriri Road (adjacent to the Rangiriri Hotel) to the south, will start from tomorrow (Thursday 21 November).
Also included in the works will be a new temporary layout of the Glen Murray Road and SH1 intersection which will be relocated approximately 200m north of current location.
The new temporary road alignment will allow space for construction of the new Glen Murray Road – Rangiriri Interchange. This temporary layout is expected to remain in place for approximately 2 years.
The traffic changes will be carried out until early next month with a speed restriction in place along this section of SH1, seeing the current limit reduced from 80km/h to 50km/h.
Drivers are advised that from this Friday 22 November until next Tuesday (26 November) southbound SH1 vehicles will be unable to turn left into Rangiriri Village from the southern end of Rangiriri Road.
Access for southbound SH1 vehicles into the village will be possible via the northern end of Rangiriri Road (opposite Te Whereo Road).
From Wednesday 27 November to Thursday 5 December there will be no right turn movements from Glen Murray Road southbound on to SH1. In addition, there will be no right turn movements from SH1 southbound into Glen Murray Road. Access for both these movements will be via a detour route from the SH1 /Plantation Road intersection and along Churchill East Road.
From Tuesday 3 December and Wednesday 4 December there will be night works between 7:30pm to 6.00am. During this time the Glen Murray Road/SH1 intersection will be closed for all movements, however the SH1 northbound and southbound will remain open. All access to and from Glen Murray bridge will be via a detour route from the SH1/Plantation Road intersection and along Churchill East Road.
There will be manual stop/go traffic operation along SH1 on the following days:
On Thursday 5 December SH1 traffic will be moved onto the new SH1 alignment and also connect to the new Glen Murray Road intersection. The Speed restriction will then be reinstated back to 80 km/h.
