Waikato Expressway: Final surfacing works to Te Rapa section starting Sunday night

|

Final surfacing work will be carried out at nights on the Te Rapa section of the Waikato Expressway over the coming week from Sunday 8 December.

The New Zealand Transport Agency advises motorists to expect some detours at different stages of the surfacing which is planned to be completed by Friday 13 December.

The work, which is weather dependent, will see the final smooth and quiet road surface OGPA (open grade porous asphalt) laid. The surfacing work is being done to all on and off ramps, the Horotiu interchange and all single lane areas of this section of the Expressway.

On Sunday 8 December, Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 December from 6.30pm – 6am overnight all traffic will not be able to use the Te Rapa section of the Expressway southbound, but all northbound travel will be open.

On Wednesday 11 December and Thursday 12 from 6.30pm – 6am overnight all traffic will not be able to use the Te Rapa section of the Expressway northbound, but all southbound travel will be open.

All detours will be signed, with traffic directed to travel along Te Rapa Road.

Final surfacing of the double lane parts of the Te Rapa section of the Expressway will be done early next year. The surfacing work is being done ahead of the opening of the new Ngaruawahia section of the Expressway in the week of 16 December.

NZ Transport Agency Project Services Manager Peter Simcock says the surfacing works will see the completion of this section of the Expressway.

“Now the chip seal has had a chance to bed in we’re able to apply this final surface. Thanks in advance to motorists for their patience while this work takes place, which we have timed to be done overnight to minimise disruption to the travelling public.”

Coincidently, drivers can now subscribe to On The Move which is a free service providing information about road closures, road works and driving conditions on their frequently used routes - to sign up, go to www.onthemove.govt.nz(external link).
