Protest action has forced the full closure of State Highway 1 between Johnsonville and Newlands this morning.
Southbound lanes were initially closed around 9.30 am for safety reasons. A full closure was put in place at approximately 10.30 am to allow emergency services to remove the protestors.
People travelling between Wellington and Tawa, Porirua, and the Kapiti Coast can expect delays and should factor this into their travel plans.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes - State Highway 58 (Haywards Hill) and State Highway 2.
