Further material has come down at the slip at Waiotahe Beach overnight, and the road remains closed today between Waiotahi Valley Back Road and Paerata Ridge Road.
Geotechnical investigation is being undertaken today and following this assessment there will be more clarity regarding when access will be restored to State Highway 2.
Light vehicles will continue to be detoured via Waiotahi Valley Road, Waiotahi Valley Back Road, Verrall Road and Paerata Ridge Road until further notice.
All heavy vehicles are unable to use the detour route, and must instead utilise routes via State Highway 5.
Waka Kotahi appreciates that this road closure will be disruptive, and work to restore access will proceed as quickly as possible.
A further update will be provided by the end of the day.
