The NZ Transport Agency is advising that contractors will be starting resurfacing works on State Highway 6 along Annesbrook Drive and Rocks Road during June.
Crews will be working from Manchester Way to just north of Blackwood Street, from Wednesday June 7th through to Friday June 16th, weather permitting.
Work will be done in sections, commencing at the southern end. The work will take a total of 9 shifts with no work being done on Sunday June 11th.
Crews will be setting up after the morning busy traffic peak from approximately 9am through to approximately 10pm at night, with work halting during the afternoon commuter traffic peak between 4 – 6pm.
The inbound bus stop (number 2218) located opposite Douglas Road will be relocated a little further north while that section of road is resurfaced.
“While two-way traffic flow will continue for most of the time, motorists will need to take care and slow down to the temporary speed limits,” says Regional Performance Manager, Mark Owen. “Some extra travel time should be factored in while this work is underway. Crews will help guide cyclists through the work site and we would remind all motorists to take extra care as there is limited room for cyclists, pedestrians and our road crews while the work is underway.
Crews will be working at night from 30 metres south of Basin Reserve to 200 metres north of the Richardson Street intersection, from Monday June 19th to Thursday June 29th
Crews will begin resurfacing work at the southern end of Rocks Road, with work expected to take 10 shifts. No work will be done on Saturday night, June 24th.
Work will start at 7pm each night and finish by 7am in the morning.
The road will be reduced to one lane with stop/go traffic management in place and a 30kmh speed restriction.
During the day the road will be open to two-way traffic but the 30kmh speed restriction will remain in place.
“We appreciate that roadworks can be disruptive, both for residents and people who have to travel through Annesbrook Drive and Rocks Road but the work is essential to ensure a safe, quiet and well maintained road surface,” says Mr Owen.
