Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is reminding road users that State Highway 2 over Remutaka Hill will be closed for one night on Sunday 12 July, from 9pm until 4am Monday 13 July.
The closure is part of a series of overnight closures that enable road crews to safely undertake essential maintenance and slip prevention works.
Regional Transport Systems Manager Mark Owen says the Remutaka Hill road is a challenging environment to work in and having the road fully closed to traffic is critical to ensuring the safety of road crews.
“We want to make sure our crews are working in a safe environment as they undertake essential maintenance work that will ensure the road is in good condition for motorists.
“It’s also better to do this work at night as there is significantly less traffic, which means we can reduce the number of day time disruptions on the road by 95 per cent.”
Access will be available for emergency services throughout the closure.
A limited shuttle van service is available for people who need to get across the hill for night shift work or essential commitments.
The next one-night closure is scheduled for Sunday 13 September from 9pm to 4am.
