Regular users of State Highway 54 Cheltenham-Hunterville Road and people heading to Putai Ngahere Domain (Vinegar Hill) in March or April should be aware of upcoming road closures.
SH54 Cheltenham-Hunterville Road will be closed at night between Tapuae Road and Rangitikei Valley Road during the following periods:
The closures will be in place from 6pm to 6am each night and the detour route is State Highway 1 (SH54 – North Street – Halcombe Road and onto SH1, and vice versa).
In addition, a single daytime road closure will be in place on Tuesday 18 April from 7am to 5pm.
Manawatū-Whanganui System Manager Rob Service says the closures will allow contractors to carry out important underslip repairs at the site safely and efficiently.
“Contractors will construct a shotcrete (used in structural repairs) retaining wall where the steep roadside dropped away after heavy rain. These works were scheduled for February but postponed due to Cyclone Gabrielle.
“Please plan ahead if you plan to travel through the area during the closures."
