The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists of upcoming road works along Rocks Road, State Highway 6 in February.
From Tuesday 7February through to Thursday 23 February, contractors will be carrying out road surface repairs along State Highway 6, Rocks Road, between the intersection at Bisley Avenue, and the roundabout on Haven Road, in Nelson.
Crews will work from 7pm- 11pm each night, except for Saturdays. To keep crews and road users safe, while the crews are working, there will be stop/go traffic management in place and a temporary speed limit of 30km/h through the work site.
The maintenance work needs fine weather to proceed, so if rain is forecast then the work will be rescheduled for the next fine evening.
Regional Performance Manager Mark Owen says the work is all part of keeping the road surface in good condition. “Over the three weeks, our crews will be working on short sections of the road undertaking the road surface repairs. We know this is a busy stretch of highway which is why we are doing this work in the evening to avoid traffic disruptions during the day,” Mr Owen says. “We thank motorists, local businesses and residents for their patience while we do this important maintenance work.”
“For your safety, the safety of our road crews and to prevent damage to your vehicle, drive carefully and stick to the temporary speed limits. Chip seal, bitumen and other road materials require time to fully settle after they are put in place, so please treat all new surfaces with extra care,” Mr Owen says.
All new roadworks are routinely monitored and, in some cases, workers may need to return to the site to sweep and repaint the road markings.
