Work start this Saturday 4 July on removing a 100 metre row of trees alongside on State highway 6 in the Glenda Drive in Frankton.
The work that’s part of the Glenda Drive Safety Improvements project, is necessary as the root systems from the trees have extended beneath the highway and are obstructing areas where underground services need to be laid as part of the project.
It is expected the contractor will start cutting the trees down from around 8.30am on Saturday. By then the worst of the morning traffic peak, that includes those heading to the ski fields, should have passed. Work will stop at around 4.30pm when traffic spikes again as skiers return from the slopes.
Both lanes of the highway will be open but a number 10-15 minutes delays can be expected while trees are being felled. Road users may like to consider alternative routes into Queenstown while this work is underway.
Electronic road side signage has been in place from today to give drivers advance warning of this work. The contractor is expected to be back on site next Saturday to finish this job.
