Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is notifying motorists travelling through Ahuriri and Onekawa over the next month that large wind turbine components will be transported from Napier Port to Onekawa.
Some of the components, including nacelles, towers and gear boxes, are up to 48.5 metres in length with a gross mass of 180,000 kilograms. Transporting these loads around the Ahuriri area will be challenging and must be done during daylight hours.
There are approximately 80 loads to be moved, with transportation to start from Thursday 13 February and expected to take four weeks.
The route will be from Napier Port, down Breakwater Road, Ahuriri Bypass, Bridge Street, Hyderabad Road, Prebensen Drive, Ford Road, ending at Waitane Place.
Motorists are urged to be aware and exercise caution when approaching the loads, especially during Napier Art Deco Festival when traffic volumes are expected to be higher than usual. There may be delays and people may wish to plan alternative routes.
The components are intended for the wind farm in Turitea, Manawatū.
