The NZ Transport Agency is thanking Northlanders for their patience as the agency’s contractors work around the clock to re-open flood damaged roads in the region.
"We know motorists and Northland residents rely on our highways for safe transport, and our contractors been doing an amazing job working in difficult circumstances to restore full access to as many of the Northland roads affected by the storm event over the weekend as possible," says the agency's Northland and Auckland North Journey Manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult.
SH1 Maromaku south of Kawakawa remains closed due to storm damage, and the agency is working to assess the extent of the slip and has started building an alternative route around the slip.
SH12 is the official detour route, but highway is reduced to a single lane at Kaihu.
