People living around Paparoa’s Nurse Clavell Lane in Northland have received a special 'thank you' from the NZ Transport Agency for their support during an emergency closure on State Highway 12 (SH12).
A section of the highway near the hospital was closed for almost 15 hours on the night of 28 June after a bitumen truck overturned, spilling its load.
The crash happened at about 3pm that Friday and the Transport Agency’s Senior Delivery Manager in Northland, Jacqui Hori-Hoult, says crews worked through the night to clear the bitumen and re-open the state highway.
“Just one word describes the fantastic support we received that night from people around Nurse Clavell Lane – awesome!
“It’s tough having to work in the dark, but this job was made a lot easier by the community – they were there to help our clean-up crews with hot drinks and soup through the night,” says Ms Hori-Hoult.
“I know everyone involved with the clean-up – the Transport Agency, the teams of maintenance contractors, and the Police and Fire Service – would like to thank the community. We all appreciated their care and attention.”
