Transmission Gully – SH1 Mungavin Interchange to Linden works

|

Over the next few weeks progress on Transmission Gully will ramp up with some big changes ahead for people travelling along SH1 between Porirua and Linden.

Chris Hunt Senior Manager Project Delivery says we are asking people to be patient, expect slower traffic and delays, and plan ahead when travelling at peak times.

“On the evening of Friday 26 October, we’re going to shift southbound traffic onto the outer lanes that are currently under construction between the Mungavin Interchange and Linden – this is subject to weather. This means that from the morning of Saturday 27 October, motorists will drive along the new lane layout, says Mr Hunt.

Approximately a week after we have shifted traffic the existing southbound lane will be demolished at Collins Ave over-bridge, and construction of the middle section of the new bridge and foundations for two new overbridges will begin.

“Each evening we will make some slight changes to the layout to enable site access for construction vehicles and staff at the end of every night shift we will reinstate the layout for day time traffic. This is to minimise disruption, says Mr Hunt.

Motorists travelling after 5am on Saturday morning will drive the new lane layout and a reduced speed restriction will be in place.

“The new lane layout and the reduced speed limits will remain in place until we finish the construction of the Kenepuru Link Bridge, the Northbound onramp and the middle section of the Collins Ave over-bridge.”

“We encourage motorists to drive carefully, and expect some delays over the first few days while everyone gets used to the new layout,” says Mr Hunt.
