The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that the first traffic signals in Cambridge will be turned on this Wednesday (2 December) at the Victoria Road Interchange on the Cambridge Section of the Waikato Expressway.
The signals will be tested by construction traffic using the interchange ramps over the next few weeks, before the Cambridge Section opens to traffic in mid-December.
There are two signalised intersections, one on either side of the bridge on Victoria Road. They will control traffic coming off and onto the expressway while allowing vehicles on Victoria Road to continue to and from the Cambridge town centre.
Motorists on Victoria Road need to be aware of the new intersection layout when travelling through the area and follow the new signals.
The Transport Agency would also like to remind motorists traffic will be restricted to 50km/h through this area to allow for finishing work.
Speed is also restricted at the northern end of the project near Tamahere and at the Southern Interchange around Golf Hill. Traffic is restricted to 70km/h and then 50km/h at the Southern Interchange to allow for sweeping and road marking in this area.

A community event to celebrate the completion of the project will be held on Tuesday, 15 December. The event starts at 3pm and runs until 8pm.
