The Transport Agency is advising motorists of temporary traffic restrictions which will see State Highway 3 south of Piopio restricted to a single lane next week.
Temporary traffic signals will be in operation while a 150-metre stretch of highway is closed to one lane while work is done on a retaining wall below the road at Mangaotaki.
Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday 3 June and run until Friday 6 June. Contractors will return in July to complete the work, when the road will need to be reduced to a single lane.
A 30km/h speed restriction will be in place at the site, close to the Mangaotaki rest area.
The traffic lights will operate 24 hours a day.
The Transport Agency advises that drivers can expect a short delay moving through the area and apologises for any inconvenience while this work is carried out.
