The Transport Agency is advising road users that some delays are on the cards, as work gets into full swing on a new roundabout to improve access from State highway 6 (SH6) to the Glenda Drive industrial area at Frankton.
The $7.5million project is jointly funded by the Queenstown Lakes District Council and the Transport Agency. The developers on Frankton Flats are contributing to the cost of the highway roundabout at Glenda Drive, that will connect the future Eastern Access Road to SH 6.
The Transport Agency says that with increasing construction activity at this site over the coming weeks, minor hold-ups for road users are unavoidable, even with two-way traffic flows in place throughout this job.
Regular users of this section of highway should factor in some extra travel time in case of delays. They may also like to consider using alternative routes via Gorge Road to access Queenstown, during the construction of the new roundabout.
A 50km/h speed restriction will operate on this section of highway, until this project is completed in October. This restriction makes it possible to build a temporary roundabout at the current Glenda Drive intersection, making right turns out of Glenda Drive safer, and reducing traffic for all motorists using Glenda Drive.
