Traffic delays expected as Wainui Bridge work starts (SH2)

|

Motorists are advised to expect delays as work starts to strengthen Wainui Bridge, on State Highway 2 (SH2) south of Katikati this month.

The bridge, located between Work Road and Sargent Drive, will be down to one lane on Monday September 8 between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm, to allow contractors to put up scaffolding  in preparation for the strengthening works.

Shoulder closures will be in place for the next six weeks ahead of a series of further lane closures.

Periodic stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions will be in place during the project, which is expected to be complete in mid-November.

Motorists should expect delays of up to 10 minutes when travelling over the bridge, NZ Transport Agency’s Bay of Plenty journey manager Nigel D’Ath said.

“The strengthening work involves installation of new steel beams along-side the existing concrete beams to increase the load capacity of the bridge,” he said.

The Transport Agency apologies for any inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience and understanding while the strengthening works are underway.
