The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that resealing works are underway on an 800-metre section of the Rimutaka Hill Road, on the Featherston side of the hill, to provide a safer, more skid-resistant road surface. The work began at 9am today (Monday 18 February) and will continue through Tuesday 19 February.
Contractors will be working during the day between 9am and 4pm with stop/go controls in place outside of peak commuter hours. Please allow an extra five minutes for your journeys.
As part of its ongoing safety programme, NZTA is making further improvements on State Highway 2 (SH2) over the Rimutaka Hill. Over the next four months approximately 3.5km of guardrail will be constructed at a number of locations over the Rimutaka Hill. Speed restrictions and traffic controls are in place, so please stick to the speed limit and follow the directions of the road signs.
These roadworks will cause minor delays so please allow an extra five minutes for your journey. For your safety, the safety of our road crews and to prevent damage to your vehicle, please stick to the temporary speed limits.
