Update: Tidying up in Te Horo – planned road closure is cancelled

|

Update 12 June

Friday’s (14 June) planned 12-hour closure of old State Highway 1 Te Horo has been cancelled, and the road will be open to all traffic under stop/go traffic management instead.

Contractors are ahead of schedule on this maintenance work and a road closure is now no longer necessary.

However, road users can expect short delays as this work continues under stop/go traffic controls and should allow extra time for their travel when using the road.

7 June

Old State Highway 1 Te Horo users can expect to see some work on the road over the coming weeks.

Road crews will remove trees and fix a culvert as part of planned maintenance. The work is needed to ensure the risk of tree falls is properly managed and the culvert is kept in proper repair.

Workers will be on site between Te Hapua and Te Horo Beach Roads for approximately three weeks from Friday, 7 June.

Hours of work will be 24/7 and drivers can expect to encounter stop/go traffic management where work is underway.

The culvert repairs will require one 12-hour closure of this section of Old State Highway 1 on 14 June. This closure is necessary due to ensure safe tree felling. While the road will be closed to traffic, access for residents will be retained at all times.

While the road is closed to traffic, access for residents will be retained at all times.

Residents living south of the Te Horo Farmstay will need to access the closure point from the south (Te Hapua Road) and residents living north of the Te Horo Farmstay will need to access the closure point from the north (Te Horo Beach Road).

Local road detours will be available for all other traffic but will require extra travel time. Drivers should plan their journeys accordingly.

The closure is planned for date please,  while the road will be closed to traffic, access for residents will be retained at all times.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding while this work is underway. It is essential maintenance that keeps the road safe and resilient.

These works are dependent on various factors and may be rescheduled. To keep up to date, sign up for  our  State Highway roadworks email updates.
