The NZ Transport Agency advises Hawke's Bay motorists that a road closure will be in place from the intersection at York Road and Maraekakaho Road to the newly constructed Longlands Roundabout from Monday onwards for two weeks subject to weather.
Acting State Highways Manager Gordon Hart says the work will enable the installation of a new culvert across Maraekakaho Road. The full closure will enable greater public safety due to the major excavation and close proximity to the existing high pressure gas main, and also enable the contractor to work more efficiently and minimise delays for the motorists.
Mr Hart says the new SH50 Hawke's Bay Expressway Southern Extension, which opened on March 11, will be available as a detour. There will be signage in place at both the northern and southern ends to guide motorists.
All businesses on Maraekakaho Road will be open during this period and can be accessed from York Road/Maraekakaho Road intersection.
Mr Hart say the NZTA are grateful to motorists for their patience and understanding while this work is carried out.
