NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advises a date change to the planned resurfacing of the southbound offramp at the Horotiu Interchange on the Waikato Expressway.
The work will now get underway tomorrow, Tuesday 16 July.

The Horotiu Interchange southbound offramp will be closed during the day from 9am (reopening at night) from Tuesday 16 July to Sunday 21 July.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead for the next stage of resurfacing the Te Rapa section of SH1C Waikato Expressway, with work switching to the southbound lanes from this week.

The bulk of the resurfacing of the northbound lanes is now complete and the Horotiu Interchange north-bound offramp has reopened.

In the next few days traffic will be switched on to the northbound lanes, remaining at one lane in each direction with speed restrictions in place between Koura Drive and the Horotiu Interchange.

Work will then begin on the second half of the project, overlaying six kilometres of southbound lanes with a new layer of structural asphalt. This will result in the following impact on traffic;

The Horotiu Interchange southbound onramp will be closed for several weeks. Traffic wanting to head south from Horotiu should use Te Rapa Road instead.

The Horotiu Interchange southbound offramp is scheduled to be closed during the day from 9am (reopening at night) from Wednesday 17 July to Sunday 21 July. The alternative route is to continue south on SH1C and use the Koura Drive interchange ramps to return north and take the Horotiu Interchange northbound offramp.

The Koura Drive southbound on and off ramps are scheduled to close from 22 July for approximately two weeks. When these ramps are closed, traffic wanting to access the expressway southbound from Koura Drive will be advised to use the northbound onramp and turn around using the Horotiu Interchange. Traffic wanting to exit the Expressway at Koura Drive will stay on SH1C and turn around using the SH1C roundabout at Crawford St/Avalon Drive. This will add approximately 10 minutes to a journey.

This schedule of ramp closures is weather dependant and may be changed if it is too wet or cold to allow asphalt to be laid on those days.

Anyone planning to drive on the Te Rapa section over the next two months is advised to check journeys.nzta.govt.nz for the latest traffic and travel information.
