Te Rapa Section – lanes closed and detours from next week for works

|

Road works on the Te Rapa Section of the Waikato Expressway are set to increase on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week with detours in place to direct traffic down Te Rapa Road.

The second coat of chip seal is being laid on the Expressway between Wairere Drive and the Horotiu Interchange and lanes on the Expressway will be closed at intervals over these three days.

It is planned that northbound lanes will be closed in the mornings and southbound lanes will be closed in the afternoons.

There will also be a 50kph speed restriction in place along the section until road markings are complete.

Drivers are asked to take care and factor the lane closures and detour into their journey time.

“We are doing this work in sections to reduce the length of any delays for motorists but we would like them to plan their journeys to allow for this,” Mr Young says.

Mr Young says sealing work is part of the planned stages to finish the road. The first coat of chip seal was applied before the road was opened in December. The second coat seal is applied before the first winter to ensure the road is water proof before the final seal is applied.

The final surface, a smooth and quiet surface called OGPA (open grade porous asphalt), will be laid towards the end of this year.
