Work gets underway later this week to stabilise a slip at the Mt Messenger bypass project site.
The slip is at the southern end of the current project site.
There is no need for a full road closure however from this Thursday (24 August), there will be temporary traffic management in place on State Highway 3 over Mt Messenger.
Roading crews will close one lane of SH3 between 7am and 5pm daily from Thursday until 7 September. Both lanes will be open as normal on Sunday 27 August.
Te Ara o Te Ata project spokesperson Caleb Perry says there is currently no risk to the existing state highway.
“The lane closure is necessary for the safety of all road users and workers and is required to access the project site where the slip is. By doing this work, we expect to avoid further slips and the potential for longer closures.
“The work will involve the construction of a small retaining wall,” says Mr Perry.
Road users can expect up to 15 minute delays at times and Waka Kotahi is reminding drivers to plan ahead during this time.
