Taradale Road motorists reminded to use detours to ease delays

The NZ Transport Agency is asking motorists travelling along Taradale Road to keep in mind that they will need to use detours rather than use the roundabout at the Expressway while roadworks are carried out over the next three weeks.

Roadworks began earlier today replacing the roundabout road surface at the intersection of Taradale Road and the Hawke’s Bay Expressway, and the NZTA is working to ease bottlenecks for motorists after higher than expected delays this morning.

NZTA Acting State Highways Manager Gordon Hart says motorists are being reminded to use the signposted detour of Kennedy Rd or Coventry Ave, Westminster Ave and Prebensen Drive to reach the CBD. Mr Hart says signs have been in place for the last two weeks to inform motorists of the detour, and it is important this signage is observed. Electronic message signs have also been put in place as an additional reminder to motorists.

“While on the first day of roadworks there are often teething problems as people adjust to the detoured route, we appreciate this is frustrating for motorists who are stuck in traffic and we’re working to address this as soon as possible.”

“We expect these delays to ease as motorists get used to the temporary detour and plan their journeys accordingly.  While some delays are inevitable when important maintenance work is carried out, we want to keep those delays to a minimum and we’ll be working closely with our contractors to keep traffic moving.”

“The work involves replacing the road surface with a stronger, more durable seal that will better stand up to the demands of this busy intersection,” says Mr Hart.

“We’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we carry out this important work.”
