Don’t forget to pack your uneaten Easter treats and travel safely if you’re driving to or from your destination today.
As the long Easter weekend continues, Waka Kotahi urges all road users to drive to the conditions, don't rush and expect the potential for delays on the roads around central North Island today.
System Manager for Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti, Martin Colditz says the forecast for the area is improving following heavier rainfall early in the weekend.
“We are continuing to closely monitor our network as conditions change. The network held up well during that rain and as always we are thankful for road users patience and understanding, especially during the long weekend.
“Roading crews have been working incredibly hard since Cyclone Gabrielle to open and strengthen our networks, but the network still requires close monitoring in many places.
“Please also remember to be kind to any roading crews working on the network. They're doing their best to ensure the roads remain as safe as possible.”
System Manager for Manawatū-Whanganui and Taranaki, Rob Service, says road users will inevitably face some delays today as people head home or onto the next part of their journey.
“Roadworks may not be occuring today but in many places, temporary traffic management and lower speed restrictions will still be in place, like at SH2 Oringi rail overbridge near Dannevirke, which recently suffered damage to its side barrier in a road crash.
“If you're planning travel, please visit our journey planner to check for latest updates, and if you're driving these roads, please drive to the conditions, expect the possibility of surface flooding and take your time-please don't rush your journey,” says Mr Service.
