Surfacing works to temporarily close Hamilton's Avalon Drive
Bypass

Final surfacing works are about to get underway for the recently completed State Highway 1 Avalon Drive Bypass in Hamilton.

Final surfacing works are about to get underway for the recently completed State Highway 1 Avalon Drive Bypass in Hamilton.

The new two-kilometre bypass was opened to traffic last October and is now due for its final surfacing. These works were specifically programmed to be carried out at least four months after the bypass was opened to allow enough time for traffic to have thoroughly compressed the chip seal.

The final surfacing will be carried out in two stages. Stage one, south of the Rotokauri Roundabout on Avalon Drive, will be carried out over three days during the week commencing March 16, and is expected to have minimal impact on traffic.

Stage two will require the closure of the Avalon Drive Bypass during the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of March and some off peak closures during the following week. The closures will be clearly signposted and State Highway 1 traffic will be diverted through Avalon Drive. The exact timing of the closures will be dependant on weather.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Regional Director Harry Wilson asks motorists to please be patient through the second stage of the works and recommends they allow some additional time for their journey.

These works are weather dependant and may be delayed if adverse weather prevents the works being carried out as programmed.
