Summer maintenance works coming for State Highway 1 Seddon

|

Drivers travelling on State Highway 1 in southern Marlborough can expect to see road crews carrying out maintenance over the coming weeks.

Road crews will be on the job in Seddon as of next Monday (19 February).

Over the next four weeks, they will do drainage, kerb and channel works, road resurfacing, and line marking along the state highway corridor.

This work will be carried out during the day, between 7 am and 6 pm, under stop/go traffic management. Road users can expect traffic delays of up to 10 minutes and must factor this into their travel plans.

No works are planned to be carried out in the evenings or at weekends, but reduced temporary speed limits through the site will remain in place. Drivers must obey these speed limits at all times.

Contractors must carry out this work now when the weather is warm and dry to ensure the new road surface bonds properly. Resurfacing work cannot be done effectively during wet and cold winter conditions.

NZ Transport Agency/Waka Kotahi thanks residents and road users for their patience and understanding while this work is completed. Regular state highway maintenance is essential and helps prevent costlier and more disruptive repairs.

Works Schedule:

  • Monday, 19 February, to Friday, 15 March. Monday to Friday, 7 am to 6 pm.
  • Contractors will begin to set up traffic management from 7 am.
  • A reduced temporary speed limit of 30km/h will be in place at roadwork sites.
  • These works are weather-dependent and may be delayed.

There are other work areas on our state highways across the top of the South Island during February and March. Please plan ahead to ensure you reach your destination on time. This is especially important for drivers with Cook Strait ferry connections.
