Temporary road closures will be in place around Trustpower Baypark, on State Highway 2 between Sandhurst Drive and SH2/29A Te Maunga Interchange, and on Truman Lane in early January 2023, with two major events taking place in the Bay.
Bay Dreams is returning to Mount Maunganui on Tuesday 3 January and a new event, Juicy Fest, is taking place on Friday 6 January. Both events will be held at Trustpower Baypark, Mount Maunganui, and combined are expected to attract 25,000 people to the region.
“With large-scale events returning, there will be more traffic on the roads and people walking in the area. We want everyone to get to where they are going to safely, no matter if you’re going to the beach, to the shops or attending an event,” says Roger Brady, Bay of Plenty System Manager at Waka Kotahi.
“The temporary event road closures aim to manage the transport network and minimise impacts to residents and businesses while the events are taking place.
“We recommend people take the stress out of getting to these events and use the drop and ride bus services at Blake Park, Gordon Spratt Reserve and Durham Street in the city centre. There is no public parking at Trustpower Baypark.”
Bay Dreams – Tuesday 3 January to Wednesday 4 January:
Juicy Fest – Friday 6 January to Saturday 7 January:
“If drivers, especially those who may not have visited Tauranga in a while, know what is happening on the roads, they can better prepare for the trip ahead and allow extra time to get to their destination safely,” says Mr Brady.
“Please allow extra time if travelling around the Baypark and Bayfair area, especially on the days of the events and follow detours. Residents and visitors should expect some delays. Where possible, we advise drivers to take alternative routes to avoid potential delays.
“If you do need to drive in this area, we encourage people to use the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner to get real-time updates on traffic, delays and alternate routes.
“We would also like to remind visitors there have been significant changes to the layout of the road as part of the Bay Link project, especially at the Bayfair and SH29A roundabouts,” says Mr Brady.
In addition to the event road closures, the changes to the Truman Lane access will remain in place. A short section of Truman Lane (westbound) is reduced to one lane. Access to Truman Lane will be via SH2 Sandhurst interchange only.
