The NZ Transport Agency is teaming up with the Road Transport Forum to reduce the number of heavy vehicle roll-overs in Northland.
More than 180 people from across the industry have taken part in workshops in Whangarei this week designed to educate drivers about the risk factors of driving heavy vehicles on the regions roads.
On average a truck rolls over every two to three days on New Zealand roads.
The joint Transport Agency and NZ Road Forum workshops have been developed after mounting concern at the number of heavy vehicles involved in roll-over crashes.
The workshops are also supported by Police and ACC.
“The NZ Transport Agency understands that truck roll-overs are a safety risk and a concern to the Otaika and wider Northland communities, which is why we are working closely with the freight industry to ensure drivers are educated about the risk factors and how to avoid them,” says the Transport Agency’s Northland Director, Ernst Zöllner.
The workshop is designed to help drivers and those who work in the industry why roll-overs occur and how to prevent them.
It gives practical advice on the fundamentals of vehicle stability and how that’s affected by the size and type of load, as well as other factors including the road and weather conditions.
