The New Zealand Transport Agency is undertaking maintenance work involving the strengthening of 12 reinforced concrete beams on the Tukituki (Waipukurau) Bridge on SH2.
McNatty Construction will take possession of the site on 29th January, with work expected to begin around February 1st.
“This work will enable SH2 south to be opened up to High Productivity Motor Vehicles, effectively meaning more freight on fewer trucks,” NZTA’s Regional Transport Systems Manager Wayne Oldfield says.
“Once work begins traffic management, including traffic signals, stop/go signs and a 30 kilometre speed limit will be put in place.”
Two lanes will be available to traffic during daytime hours of 6 am and 6 pm, however this will be reduced to a single lane after 6 pm and remain in place overnight.
To ensure the contractor is able to complete the work, overweight and over dimension vehicles have been provided with two weekly designated time periods in which they can cross.
Mr Oldfield says that for much of the project, traffic management will likely be the only activity visible to the general public, as the work is happening under the bridge.
“It is important however that traffic management and speed restrictions are followed in order to allow the treatment being applied to cure. If this does not happen then it will need to be reapplied and the project will be delayed,” Mr Oldfield says.
