Crews will be working on a stretch of State Highway 1 between Foxton and Oturoa Road, south of Manawatū River Bridge, next week to complete the installation of flexible median barrier.
The work, to install wire rope through new barrier posts, which are already in place, will be carried out between 7pm and 6am nightly from Sunday 23 June to Wednesday 26 June.
This stretch of SH1 will be under stop/go traffic management with a 30 km/h temporary speed limit in place while this work is underway. Stop/go traffic management and lower speeds will enable the crews to work safely in the centre of the road. Traffic management will be as follows: ·
- Sunday 23 June: Between Foxton and the Manawatū River Bridge there will be stop/go traffic management in place with a speed limit of 30km/h in the northbound lane. We advise motorists to expect delays of up to 10 minutes. The southbound lane will flow as normal under a temporary speed limit of 30km/h.
- Monday 24 June: Between Foxton and the Manawatū River Bridge there will be stop/go traffic management in place with a speed limit of 30km/h in the southbound lane. We advise motorists to expect delays of up to 10 minutes. The northbound lane will flow as normal under a temporary speed limit of 30km/h.
- Tuesday 25 June: Between the Manawatū River Bridge and Oturoa Road a small section of SH1 will operate under stop/go with a temporary speed limit of 30km/h. Delays expected to be less than 5 minutes.
- Wednesday 26 June: Between the Manawatū River Bridge and Oturoa Road there will be a temporary speed limit of 30km/h to allow crews to work in the centre of the road to tension the wire rope barrier. Crews working on the turnaround facility at Oturoa Road expect to have this opened before these works take place. This facility is designed to provide a safe place for road users to turnaround once the flexible median barrier has been installed in the area.
