Still time to have your say on Spring Creek safety upgrade

Still time to make submissions about its proposal to make the Spring Creek junction safer.

The Transport Agency is eager to receive public feedback to inform and refine the design of a proposed package of improvements including a new roundabout, pedestrian and cycle facilities, and level crossing barrier arms for southbound vehicles.

Marlborough Roads Manager Frank Porter says, "We’ve seen a really encouraging response from the community. Around 35 people came along to our Public Information Day, ranging from local residents to truck drivers.

“We were delighted to see such a strong level of support for safety improvements at this intersection. We share the community’s passion for improving safety at Spring Creek, and it’s heartening that we will soon see real changes that will help to save lives and prevent injuries here.

“After taking on board previous feedback from the community, we’ve decided to proceed with the roundabout proposal, but we anticipate that the public can help us make further refinements that will ensure the safety upgrade is effective and well designed.

"The public information day was really valuable, because by chatting face to face with the community, we were able to help people to better understand how our proposal works and why we believe it will improve the ease and safety of travel.”

“What’s more, people shared some really useful insights with us, and this reinforces just why community feedback is so important in helping us to get the final design right.”

The Transport Agency has already received a number of verbal and written submissions on the design, but it's not too late to provide further comments.

Mr Porter says feedback by 31 October (Friday) would be appreciated. The Transport Agency will then analyse all the information received and summarise the public’s feedback, which will then be made publicly available.
