The NZ Transport Agency is advising drivers travelling between Christchurch and Picton via alternate State highways 7, 65, 6 and 63, that a section of SH 7 at Horse Shoe Lake west of Hanmer Springs turnoff, will be temporarily closed later today (Monday, 21 November) to clear rock fall hazard.
Manual stop/go traffic management will be in place 20km west of Hanmer Springs just south of Hope River Bridge from 4.00pm today. Drivers are to expect a delay of up to 30 minutes. Currently there is four times the usual amount of traffic using this route.
The Transport Agency is asking all drivers using this route to please be patient and show consideration for all other road users.
Fuel, food and toilets are available along this route at Culverden, Springs Junction, Murchison and St Arnaud and on State Highway 7A at Hanmer Springs township.

State Highway 1, the main through route between Picton and Christchurch is closed due to the Kaikoura earthquakes.
