Drivers on SH6 between Fox Glacier and Haast should expect delays of 15 to 20 minutes from today until mid-December.
The road is being repaired at Potters Creek, nearly 2 km north of Lake Paringa.
Traffic lights will be used to let drivers past the work site safely.
