Repairs have been completed and the highway and the Tauwharenīkau Bridge are open in both directions.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while these urgent roadworks were completed.
Drivers are warned to expect short delays when travelling on State Highway 53 between Featherston and Martinborough.
The Tauwharenīkau Bridge is under stop/go traffic management and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit as road crews work to fix a drop-out.
The damage was reported around 11:30 am today. Staff are on site carrying out an assessment.
Drivers are asked to follow all instructions from road workers and obey all traffic management in place. It is there to keep people safe.
Road users can expect short delays at the bridge and should allow extra time for their journeys.
Further updates will be provided when available.
