Contractors are waiting for a window of fine weather to repair and complete sealing on the State Highway 39-Limmer Rd intersection west of Hamilton
Final works have been disrupted by winter weather and some traffic management will remain in place until the work is completed.
The intersection is the final stage of a NZ Transport Agency project which saw Te Kowhai Road and Limmer Road upgraded to connect SH39 traffic with the Te Rapa section of the Waikato Expressway. The new intersection layout at Limmer Road re-prioritised state highway traffic.
The key change is that SH39, from Limmer Rd north to Ngaruawahia, will revert to a local road, and traffic heading south on that stretch now gives way at the new intersection at Limmer Road.
The new layout has been open to traffic for several weeks but the Transport Agency says problems with the sealed surface are to be fixed by the contractor ahead of a final coat of hot-mix asphalt.
The Transport Agency appreciates the patience of residents and motorists while this work is being undertaken.
The site is under temporary traffic management and drivers are requested to take care until the sealing and road marking is completed.
