Drivers are advised to expect delays this Monday 19 August as road works will be undertaken near the Wairoa River Bridge from 10.00am to 4.00pm along State Highway 2 (SH2), says the NZ Transport Agency.
The works will only affect traffic travelling from Te Puna towards Bethlehem, a detour down Te Puna Road and Te Puna Station Road will be in place.
Travellers heading northbound and HPMV trucks travelling in either direction will have access over the Wairoa River Bridge through a manual stop/go traffic operation.
Highways Manager, Brett Gliddon says the road resurfacing is necessary to ensure the standard of this section of highway continues to be safe for driving.
"We are aware this is a busy stretch of highway which is why this work is being undertaken outside peak travel times."
"HPMV trucks will be able to drive through the area regardless of whether they are heading north or south of Te Puna, as they are not permitted to use the detour route."
Speed restrictions will be in place says Mr Gliddon, drivers are advised to allow for additional journey times which will be approximately 10 minutes.
“We thank drivers for their assistance and patience during this works,” says Mr Gliddon.
This work is weather dependent if wet, it will move to the next fine day.
